Tippel’s Grundfarben presents the pelican as a nurturing parent caring for its young - a symbol rooted in historical legend and long associated with devotion, responsibility and trust. For Pelikan, this imagery expresses a core philosophy: care for customers, partners and generations to come. Through form, colour and composition, Tippel transformed a  commercial poster into a narrative image of enduring resonance. His work communicates not only a product, but a set of values - continuity, responsibility and commitment - that remain central to Pelikan today.

A subtle yet expressive detail from Tippel’s original artwork defines the design of this
edition. The flowing cloud formations from the sky of the 1899 poster have been reimagined as an abstract, rhythmic pattern across the decorative sleeve of the fountain pen.
The softly contoured forms interact with light to create depth, movement and a delicate shimmering effect. Framed by semi-transparent warm brown resin components, the motif harmoniously connects historic artwork with contemporary craftsmanship. Crafted using the sophisticated Aurora process, the barrel features finely engraved guilloché structures beneath multiple layers of lacquer, creating a luminous surface that enhances the visual presence of the design.

With the Pelikan Art Collection Georg Tippel, a historic work of advertising art is transformed into a tangible object of expression. What once existed as a poster now becomes a writing instrument carrying history, symbolism and craftsmanship into everyday life. A fascinating and enduring piece of Pelikan heritage - brought into the present through the art of writing.
